Guy Tal Releases His New Ebook, “Creative B&W Processing Techniques”

10 July, 2012 (23:50) | Fine Art, Review

Guy Tal Ebook

I’ve been a photographer for over 40 years. When I shot film, about 80% of my work was in black and white. I love the subtle tones of a monochrome photograph. Without the distraction of colors you can really focus on composition.

Then I switched over to digital, and 99% of my work is now color. I’ve been hearing the call of the monochrome siren and was just getting back into black and white when Guy Tal released his new ebook, “Creative B&W Processing Techniques” (http://guytalbooks.com/catalog_show_ebook.php?bid=4). His ebook gives a complete and detailed description of what you need to do, start to finish, to make amazing black and white digital images. I can see a lot of black and white in my future.

Guy Tal is a professional photographer, guide and author living in Utah. His Fine Art photographs are amazing to see, which you can do at http://guytal.com. His love of nature comes across in his fine art photographs, and in this ebook.

The ebook goes into great detail about the entire process of creating beautiful and powerful black and white photographs. It’s full of useful information, but also has components of a workbook. Scattered throughout are a series of exercises. They make you stop and think about what you have just read, and make sure you understand what was talked about. (Don’t worry, the correct answers are in the back of the book.)

You will also notice that Guy’s ebook covers the entire process of creating a digital black and white photograph. It goes from visualization through printing, to insure you get the photograph you wanted.

While reading the ebook, I kept finding myself saying, “So that’s how he does that.” We all have our little bag-of-tricks for creating photographs, but one of the joys of this ebook was finding new techniques that would let me take my photographs to the next level. Photography is a process of constant improvement, and Guy’s ebook definitely helps you do this.

I also like the great diversity of image processing techniques that the ebook offers. It covers:

  • Black and White
  • Filters (in Photoshop)
  • Hand-tinting
  • Hybrid images

If you want to take full advantage of Guy’s processing expertise, then you’ll want to get one of his other books, “Creative Processing Techniques” (http://guytalbooks.com/catalog_show_ebook.php?bid=2). This ebook is designed to give you a firm grounding into processing digital photographs. “Creative B&W Processing Techniques” picks-up where the first book ends, and takes you on the black and white journey. They work well together, and come as a bundle at a lower price than buying them separately (http://guytalbooks.com/catalog_show_ebook.php?bid=8).

Guy put a lot of effort into creating an ebook filled with information that is detailed, and well illustrated with photographs, charts and screenshots. You won’t find anything missing when it comes to the complete process of creating digital black and white images. Check out “Creative B&W Processing Techniques” (http://guytalbooks.com/catalog_show_ebook.php?bid=4).

Have Fun,
Jeff
