How Long Should Your Manuscript Be?

I’m often asked how long a manuscript should be. Here are the most common lengths, but always check each publication’s guidelines to see exactly what they’re looking for.

Short story - up to 7,000 words
Novelette or Novella - 7,000 to 15,000 words
Novel - over 15,000 words
