About Jeff Colburn

The best way to describe me is to say that I am a Renaissance Man, being well versed in both the arts and sciences. I completed my four-year high school program in three years, majoring in marine biology and oceanography. Later, I received an Associate of Arts degree in Criminology from Cypress Community College in California, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology from California State University Long Beach. I am also a native Californian, who now finds myself residing in Arizona. The smog, concrete and traffic chased me out of California.
Always seeking a challenge, I have had many careers, including:
- Deputy Sheriff
- Crime Analyst
- Freelance Photographer
- Freelance Computer Consultant
- Freelance Marketing Researcher
- Creator of a nonprofit organization where I edited and published a national monthly newsletter for the hearing impaired community
After all this experimentation, I’ve discovered several fields that offer me a constant challenge. I write science fiction, fantasy, horror and erotic short stories, poetry and I’m also an inventor. Interested in art for many years, I’m working on my illustration skills using graphite, colored pencil and acrylics. I also create cartoons. I’ve also made the switch to digital photography, and love it.
For relaxation, I have tried:
- Mountain climbing
- SCUBA diving
- Equitation
- Body surfing
- Ice-skating
- Stamp and coin collecting
I am currently involved in photography, the martial arts, hiking, attending Renaissance Faires and I have my own Stock Photography business, StockPhotosArizona.com, which specializes in photographs of, yes, Arizona.
While a freelance photographer I produced photographs for publications, commercial products and audiovisual presentations, to be used by a variety of companies and organizations, including:
- Security Pacific National Bank
- API Alarm Systems
- Smith Tool Corporation
- California State University Long Beach
- The Crystal Cathedral
- Art Direction and Design of Orange County
- The Irvine Fine Arts Center
I also completed several classes through The Newport School of Photography, taught by Al Belson. Any other alumni out there? The classes I took were:
- Fashion and Glamour Photography
- Photographing People
- Studio Lighting
- Product Photography
- Freelance Photography
My writing has appeared in numerous publications, including:
- Inside Reports
- Improving Me
- Fiction Addiction
- All Freelance Work
- Knowledge Download
- The Writer’s Room
- Inside Reports
- Tourist Traveler
- Absolute Write
- Business Filings, Inc.
