A few days ago I made a big mistake and accidentally deleted my three websites, blog, and two blogs I was using as galleries for my stock and Fine Art sites.
Restoring the websites was no problem; I just uploaded them from my computer. The WordPress blogs were another story.
Every month I used the backup feature in WordPress to save my blogs, but I found out that the backups really don’t work. When I installed the backup I found out that:
- The photographs in all posts are replaced with links, that don’t work.
- Any themes, other than the two standards ones, are not installed.
- Any widgets you installed are gone.
Needless to say, it’s been a pain trying to put the blog back together. I gave up on the galleries for my stock and Fine Art sites. It took me weeks to set them up, and I just don’t want to do that again. I’m going back to HTML galleries.
If you use a WordPress blog, find a different way to back it up than what WordPress offers. And test the backup before you need it to be sure it works properly.
