Photo – Pueblo Bonito Astronomical Window

This photo shows a rare corner window at Pueblo Bonito, which is in Chaco Canyon, New Mexico. There are only seven such windows in the entire 650 rooms at Pueblo Bonito. These windows were used for astronomical observation, and this one determined when the winter solstice arrived.

If you want to know what prehistoric cultures knew about the night sky, do a search for Archaeoastronomy.

  1. Do you have any tips for writing write-ups? That’s where I constantly battle and also
I just wind up staring vacant screen for long time.

    • Hi Bryant,

There’s a lot of information on the Net about how to write. And you may find some useful information on my Articles page http://www.jeffcolburn.com/articles/. I would suggest making an outline of the points you want to cover, then start fleshing it out.

      Have Fun,
      Jeff
